photos from granny tina

Granny Tina is an avid walker. She belongs to a couple of hillwalking groups and goes walking around Edinburgh every week. This week she was walking near Peebles and she sent these beautiful photos that she took with her iPhone.
She said the fog was thick in Peebles town but when you walked above the fog the views were amazing and they walked in sunshine all day.

snow day II

After playing in the snow this was Cameron's action plan - hot chocolate followed by an afternoon nap on the sofa.

Snow day!

No school today because of the snow. Forecast is for 2-6 inches of snow but at the moment there's just a dusting...brrrrrr.....

chocolate milk and cookies

I think that might be Cameron and Jamie's comfort food.

Granpa and Granma Elliott say goodbye!

George and Allison have been here to visit and look after Cameron and Jamie while we had our trip to the Bahamas - a big thank you to them for taking care of the boys!
Next time we'll see them in Portugal?

Bob's found a new home

I know it was time to let Bob go but it was a very emotional decision. Cameron even cried the first time I told him we would be selling Bob. But the deed is now done. Bob has gone to a new home and is ready for a new baby - happy ending.

Pirates

Arrrgghhhh Matey! Look what we brought back for Cameron and Jamie.

Bahamas and back

We just spend a wonderful week with our friends Mark, Lisa and Emily in the Bahamas. I wish we could have stayed longer or taken the boys with us, so perhaps next time. The boys had a great time with their Granma and Granpa and we had a very relaxing time at the Cabrelli's. Look at their patio, complete with outside bar...

The day we arrived we had lunch by the ocean and immediately realised how easy it is to relax in the Bahamas.
We went to visit Atlantis one evening so I could see what all the fuss is about. It is an amazing place but a bit too much like Vegas in the Bahamas which didn't really make sense to me. However, I can see that it has been great for the Bahamas and if you ever want to get away from every day life you can go for a little escapism. Here we are outside the entrance in front of the horse fountain.
We were looking into the fish tanks from above!

We also got to see some of Mark and Lisa's favourite places, met some of their friends, ate some great food and heard Emmy play piano. Thanks Mark, Lisa and Emmy for a great visit! Let us know when you decide to come back to us in Reston!

Elliot's party

I haven't blogged for a while, which Grant pointed out today, but we've been very busy! Grant's dad George and his wife Allison are visiting. Cameron and Jamie are having fun with Granpa and Granma.

Today Granma Allison and I took the boys to Elliot's birthday party. They had so much fun! It was at Elliot's Tae Kwon Do studio and the boys got to break a piece of wood. See the videos below... here is Cameron....

and here is Jamie...

winter and back to school

Having flowers in the house during winter brings a little bit of sunshine into our kitchen. Over Christmas we had lovely flowers from Donna and now our Amaryllis has bloomed and we have pink and white flowers in the kitchen.

Roll on spring!

Plus, the boys were back at school today. Jamie is working on the letter A and Cameron is working on the letter D. Our art corner will return so you can see some of the fun things they are bringing home....stay tuned!

amazonia

The DC National Zoo is an amazing place. We always have fun there with Cameron and Jamie. And although it was a cold day on Sunday we decided to take a walk around the zoo and see which animals were venturing outside.

After a quick visit around the petting zoo we found Amazonia - an inside exhibit and very warm which was perfect for a cold Sunday morning. We headed inside and it was fantastic. Lots of stingrays and a couple of huge tanks of fish. Then there were frogs and snakes and more fish and finally lots of bugs.

This photo of the fish doesn't do them justice. They were enormous. I'll have to post the photo I took of Cameron standing beside the glass. Anyway, they are called arapaima and they were about 4 feet long.
This is a blue poison dart frog. They had a great collection of colourful frogs and Jamie loved watching them hop. After seeing the fish tanks from below you could walk up the stairs and see Amazonia from above. There were meant to be some other animals in the upstairs section but we couldn't see them - well hidden I think!

We also saw the grey seals being fed by their handlers and Cameron enjoyed pretending to be a seal for the rest of the morning.

natural history museum

Today Granny Tina and I ventured into the city again to take the boys to the Natural History Museum for the first time. It was a great morning out and the boys really enjoyed their visit. Here is the elephant in the rotunda - the boys loved walking around the elephant and hearing all the animal noises.

Next was our main reason for going to the museum - the dinosaur fossils. Cameron and Jamie were just amazed at all the dinosaurs. We had just watched an episode of Diego and Dinosaurs where Diego, Dora and Alicia were in a dinosaur museum so going to the real thing was a major adventure for the boys. They loved the triceratops and wanted Granny and me to read the names of every single dinosaur we went past. Cameron was particularly interested in which ones were "meat eaters" and which other dinosaurs would be eaten!
The museum also has a really cool place called the Insect Zoo. After lunch we went to look at all the insects and Cameron and Jamie got to touch an Australian stick insect - see below. Granny and I left it up to the boys to be adventurous insect explorers.
Cameron also loved the tree leaf ants because you could see them walking in a line carrying pieces of leaves.

All in all, a very educational and fun morning visit!

goggles

Cameron and Jamie both got new swimming goggles from Santa. Cameron loved his so much that he wanted to wear them all day yesterday. We couldn't resist taking a photo of him in the back of the car - looking cool!
